Summary

The Vesper V-High Base is the most popular modern cat tree currently on the market. The V-High Base and most of Vesper’s other cat tree variations are attentively designed for cats with some consideration given to aesthetics. There’s no hiding the fact that this is a cat tree. And that may not be a big deal considering you’ll be getting a top-quality cat tree for a very reasonable price.

Assembly

Assembly is a bit of a pain due to bad instructions, but it can be accomplished in about 30 minutes. We highly recommend you check out the instructional video prior to starting. It definitely helps! Everything you need is included with the cat tree.

Appearance

The Vesper V-High Base is an elegant piece of furniture for your cats. The simple geometric design of this cat tree gives it modern appeal. The Vesper V-High Base is a huge improvement over standard carpeted cat trees. But when you compare it to some of the more modern options out there, it loses some style points.

Cat-Friendliness

The Vesper V-High Base Cat Tree scores above average for cat-friendliness. We like that it has multiple scratching posts that are plenty tall for even the largest cats to get a good stretch on. The rounded edges and cushioned platforms make this cat tree safe for rowdy cats.

This cat tree is one of the more stable ones we’ve seen. You can have multiple cats climbing on it at once with virtually no wobble.

The cube is appropriately sized for the average cat. If your kitties are over 15-pounds or have a large frame, they are probably not going to find this cube very comfortable. The small 8” opening certainly won’t help matters. Fortunately, the platforms are large enough for climbing and lounging.

The dangling toy is definitely a cat-friendly addition, but don’t count on it lasting forever.

Quality

The Vesper V-High Base is a quality product for the money. The quality of design is exceptional for the average-sized cat and multi-cat households. We like that Vesper chose to use Velcro for the removable cushions. This certainly makes cleaning much easier.

The true test of quality for The Vesper V-High Base Cat Tree will be time. From experience, sisal rope scratching posts don’t hold up very long under frequent use. And when they start to wear out they look awful and make a huge mess.

Pros

  • Good value
  • Lots of features
  • Multi-cat friendly
  • Several color options
  • Replaceable Velcro cushions

Cons

  • Not very tall
  • Dangling toy won’t last
  • Cubby is too small for XL cats

Summary / Recommendations

The Vesper V-High Base Cat Tree is a well-designed, attractive-looking, cat tree at a great price. We think there are some improvements that would make this cat tree even more appealing. For starters, Vesper could make their trees more fat cat-friendly by designing a larger cube with a full opening. We would like to see sisal carpet used on the posts instead of sisal rope. It’s more attractive and holds up better. We’d also ditch the dangly toy. It detracts from the modern appearance and is one of the first things to get destroyed.

But overall, if you’re looking for an affordable cat tree that your cat will love, the Vesper V-High Base is a very good choice.
